Rather than do two versions of this image I have decided to invest all my time into one good one. I have gone through a lot redrawing on this one page and I feel it is my strongest idea so far.
A. This banner features a stylized G which resonates with the folksy and "woody" village feel of the Hobbit town. A Hobbit dwelling, Bilbo's house, takes up the O space. Gandalf watches the door from a distance, either waiting or approaching, a pipe in his mouth. A G and L are stylized in a wooden/country way to resonate with the village in the book. A sleeping dragon adds interest to the image and an aesthetically pleasing pattern that arises in the smoke that comes from his nose. I decided not to color this picture because it will interfere with scanning, tracing and referencing (encase I change my mind about the color). Earth toned colors are a second choice, will first see how the image looks in illustrator with the Google colors shown under the picture in the square. Will use very washed out colors to show off line work.
B. The door pictured here will appear over the other door image at 5s, giving the illusion of door opening with Bilbo's silhouette at the entrance.
C. Two seconds later the eye here will overlap the closed eye on the dragon showing that the opening of the door has awoken him.
